A picture book entitled Honchō Garin (i.e., A Grove of Our Country's Paintings) was published in 1752. Edited by Sadatake Takagi, it included the nine pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most pictures were drawn by members of the Kanō family of artists who used a Chinese-influenced drawing style and were supported by the Japanese government from the late 15th to 19th century.
